Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is a surgical technique whereas a large incision is not necessary. A thin, lighted tube—known as the laparoscope—is inserted into the abdomen through a small incision. The laparoscope is a small camera that allows your doctor to see the pelvic organs. If a problem needs to be addressed, other instruments are inserted either through the laparoscope or through other small incisions in your abdomen. Laparoscopy may be used to in the treatment of endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, sterilization, laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH), laparoscopic hysterectomy, pelvic problems, such as urinary incontinence, and pelvic support problems, such as uterine prolapse.
