What can I expect during an obstetric visit?

During your obstetric visit, Dr. Fahmy and Dr. Roesner assess both you and your baby’s health. The first visit may be your longest visit and includes:

  • Physical and pelvic exam
  • Urine test to confirm pregnancy
  • Bloodwork
  • Pap smear
  • Calculation of your due date
  • Discussion of your health and family history
  • Answers to your questions

Regular follow-ups track you and your baby’s health. During follow-ups Dr. Fahmy,  or Dr. Roesner:

  • Measures weight gain
  • Measures abdominal girth
  • Checks blood pressure
  • Monitors fetal heart rate

How often do I need to see the doctor during pregnancy?

To keep close tabs on you and your baby’s health, Dr. Fahmy or Dr. Roesner want to see you once a month up to week 28 of your pregnancy. Then, you need to come into the office twice a month up to week 36. During the last four or so weeks of your pregnancy, you come in weekly until you have the baby.

What is a high-risk pregnancy?

A high-risk pregnancy is a pregnancy where there’s concern about the health of either you or your baby. Your pregnancy may be considered high-risk at the start or discovered as your pregnancy progresses.

Factors that may indicate a high-risk pregnancy include:

  • Multiple births
  • Age of the mother (younger than 18 or older than 35)
  • Medical condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Overweight or obesity

Dr. Fahmy and Dr. Roesner are skilled obstetricians with many years of experience and can help you manage your high-risk pregnancy to ensure a safe delivery for both you and your baby.

What is a biophysical profile?

A biophysical profile is a test conducted at Aster OB/GYN that checks on the health of your baby. It combines an ultrasound with a nonstress test, or fetal heart monitor test.

During the test, Dr. Fahmy, and Dr. Roesner evaluate your baby’s heart rate, muscle tone, movement, and amniotic fluid to make sure your baby is in good health.

What are my delivery options?

Dr. Fahmy and Dr. Roesner understand how important your delivery plan is to you and offers natural delivery at the birthing center.

If needed, Dr. Fahmy and Dr. Roesner can also perform a cesarean section. Reasons a woman may need a cesarean section include:

  • Placenta previa
  • Fibroids
  • Multiple births
  • Previous cesarean section
